Do You Have Unclaimed Funds from the Courts? More Than 100 Do

A list of more than 100 residents and businesses are eligible to claim funds now held by Polk County, according to Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller Stacy M. Butterfield, Each of the checks listed is worth $100 or more.

Unclaimed funds languishing in County accounts must be claimed by their rightful owners by September 1.

The list of individuals with unclaimed checks issued during court-related activities is published annually. Funds must be claimed by September 1 or be forfeited to the county.

"We hope to inform people so we can return these funds to their rightful owners," Clerk Butterfield said. "Checking for your name is simple and quick, so I encourage everyone to take a few minutes to review the list. While there's no such thing as 'free money', this might be the next best thing for those on our unclaimed funds list."

To make a claim, contact the Clerk & Comptroller unclaimed funds hotline at 863-534-4429 or email before Sept. 1. As per Section 116.21 of the Florida Statutes, unclaimed court-related property must be claimed to avoid forfeiture of the funds.
